All Waste collected in skips is brought back to our Recycling Centre, which is at our main office in Rotherham. It is tipped, sorted, re-handled, trommelled, handpicked or screened. After segregation, the waste is delivered to different destinations, leaving only 30% to go to Landfill.
Wood is handpicked from the waste stream and taken to a Wood Treatment Plant, where it is processed using a custom built machine called at Droppstadt Cleaning & Shredding System. The recycled wood is used to make chipboard and other MDF products. The Green Waste, shrubs, trees and other putrescible wastes (ie wastes that rot and can be broken down by bacteria) are used for composting.
Glass is segregated and taken to be re-processed. This involves the glass being crushed and all its contaminants removed. It is then mixed with raw materials and melted in a furnace. The melted material is moulded or blown into new bottles or jars. Recycling 2 old bottles saves enough energy to boil the kettle for 5 cups of tea!
Construction & Demolition Waste, also commonly known as Inert Waste is one of our main wastes that is brought on site. All inert waste (waste that is non-reactive) is recycled. The brick is crushed and used by Civil Engineers for road building, as well as house builders on new sites to put temporary entrance roads. The soil is screened by us with a Finlay Trommell and separated into two types of soil, one is a top soil used by landscapers and gardeners and the other is a sub soil, also used by landscapers.
Cardboard & Paper. Having already done its job, paper can be used as reclaimed fibre to make new materials. Paper and cardboard are baled and separated and taken to a paper mill. It is cleaned by removing materials unsuitable for pulping, ie string, paperclips, plastics and glue.
Plastic. Plastics are divided into 3 types. Polythylene (PG,) Polypropylene (PP), and Polystyrene (PS). It is washed and separated and made into re-extrude granules (pellets)of secondary raw materials which substitute virgin materials.
Metals, Metals are sorted and sold to metal importers.
